2025 is the default data set

7, 9 and 12 day treks are loaded and largely verified, as always please report errors. You can still use the 2024 data set by selecting it from the available treks books

The best word I can use to describe 2025 is ... reset. For all intents and purposes these are all new treks.

There are two challenges for those trying to locate treks of their liking - first, there are no real corollary treks from 2024 to leverage; and second many of the activities previously on the itinerary sheet have disappeared and are only found on the grids and tables at the beginning of each trek section. I'll be working on ways to address this in the coming days.

PhilSearch's 2025 data set is consistent with the 12/19/2024 version of the Itinerary Guidebook.

Passing of Doug Palmer

From PSR: It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Doug Palmer.

Doug served Philmont Scout Ranch as an Associate Director of Program for over 23 years. During this time, he made an indelible impact on the lives of over 5,000 seasonal staff members and more than 400,000 Scouts and Scouters who experienced the magic of Philmonts backcountry.

Doug was a visionary, constantly innovating Philmonts backcountry programs, and a mentor to countless Philmont staff members. He believed that working at Philmont was the best job you will ever have. He always had time to share a story and offer encouragement.

Doug was an avid fisherman, keeping a fly rod handy. He gave leadership to the annual Philmont Fly Fishing Seminar and was instrumental in supporting the Casting for Recovery program that is conducted on many occasions at Philmont. In 2016, he was honored with the prestigious Silver Sage Award by the Philmont Staff Association, a testament to his unwavering commitment and leadership. His legacy will live on throughout Philmonts backcountry and in the memories of those who had an opportunity to share the journey with Doug.

A Remembrance of Life service was be held on Saturday, September 14th in the Philmont Training Center Assembly Hall.

From PhilSearch: Doug will be missed. Doug was a true visionary an example being a supporter of the Peaks project in the mid 2000s where volunteers converted historical treks and peaks guides to pdfs and created a web based searchable treks tool (PhilSearch) long before trek selection went online. I enjoyed working with him to advance and promote HOmE.

Problems with Firefox

There are some issues with PhilSearch and Firefox ... until I resolve it I recommend Chrome or Edge. - Jim

Custom Treks vs Standard Treks

Significant changes are underway to make it possible to compare a imaginary or historical trek with standard treks. This capability allow you to enter the treks of your youth with their contemporary counterparts.

Step 1 is to use the trek editor to enter the trek of your choosing (complete)
Step 2 is to use the "Compare Custom to all Itineraries" choice on the Compare menu to score the treks (under construction)
